Sunny Beach Resort, Eagle-eye view

The Sunny Beach summer resort is perched at 36 km North of Bourgas city and about 95 km to the South of Varna and is the largest holiday resort on the Black Sea coast. The resort is naturally set in a large bay, protected by the slopes of the Balkan Mountain to the North and its beach reaches as far as Nessebur to the South. The wide semi-circular bay, facing east forms the beach strip, which is over 8 km long and 30-60 m wide and covered with fine golden sand and natural dunes - most situated in the resort's southern part.

The mild transitional Mediterranean climate of the resort provides for the average daily air temperatures of 27-33°C and sea water temperatures of 25-28°C in the summer. The sea is clean, shallow and gently sloping, suitable for children. There are no dangerous fish, no tides and no big waves. All these make Sunny Beach a preferable place for family tourism as well.

Good restaurants in Sunny Beach:
  • JANNY's - Eat and drink where the locals go (from central alley in front of Kuban Hotel - go West walking 200m straight after crossing the main street) - Expect to cue but worth the wait, biggest kebabs in the resort + incredibly cheap prices!
  • KONDOR (5 min. walking South from central alley in front of Kuban Hotel along the main street) - Again the 10 minutes cue is not an acception, but worth the wait, tasty dishes, good service and prices.
  • Buchvata (The caks) - The best of Bulgarian cuisine washed down by superb Bulgarian wines.
  • Chouchoura (The Spout) - Rrich variety of local specialties, vintage wines and brandy.
  • Cherven luv (Red Lion) - Original lager and stout, plus the right food that goes with them, in a real English pub.
  • Vyaturna melnitsa (Windmill) - Original design and atmosphere, national cuisine. Don't miss the shashlik, grilled on a fire at your side.
  • Strandjanskite colibi (The Mt. Strandjia Huts) - Period huts from the most exotic and least civilized part of the country, typical local cuisine.

    Sightseeing and culture
Sunny Beach is only 3km away from Nessebar, one of the most ancient towns in Europe. Founded in the second century AD as Mesembria, since 500 AD it was a Greek, Byzantine and Bulgarian colony. The peak of its development was during the reign of king Alexander I when the town was one of the most important seaports in the Bulgarian State. Mesembria has more than 40 ancient churches and monasteries, most of these in ruins. The remnants of an antique fortified wall with a gate dating from III-IV century, the churches from V-VI century and the ones dating from the medieval period (X-XIV century), which are fine works of the medieval Bulgarian and Byzantine architecture, 60 houses of the revival period – all of these give the town unique appearance and atmosphere.

  • Closest airport: Burgas Airport - Transfer time: half-hour (38 km)
  • Closest yacht ports: Nessebar (3 km); Marina Dinevi (5 km)
