The village of Sveti Vlas (St. Vlas) is situated in the foothills of the eastern tip of the Balkan mountain range, on the Black Sea coast and is 40 km north of Bourgas and just 3 km north of Sunny Beach resort. The climate is mild Mediterranean and the night cool air coming from the mountain behind is favoured by tourists after a hot day at the beach. St. Vlas was founded by the Thracian tribe called Larisi in the 2nd Century AD. In the 14th Century, it adopted the name Sveti Vlas, after the patron saint of cattle merchants. There have been five monasteries around the village.

There are several small secluded beaches 250m underneath the village that make for a unique romantic place. Just above are numerous newly built holiday complexes - most of them a mixture of priavte apartments and a hotel with swimming pools in a common fence. Most of the private apartments can be rented on self catering basis at a very reasonable price. The large nearby resort of Sunny Beach is a fantastic place for a day on beach or for entertainment both day and night. The Old town of Nessebar (8 km away), a World Heritage site, will definitely conquer any traveller with its antique beauty. With its fine beaches and attractions, Nessebar, Suny Beach, St. Vlas and Elenite form what is now known as the Bulgarian Riviera.

Recently opened (24 Jun 2007) the Marina Dinevi Yacht Port is the pride of the small holiday village. It is the biggest yacht port on Bulgaria's Black sea coast, with capability to host about 250 yachts - including 50 yacht lots for the royal class of 25 meters. The beautiful small beach next to the port is a preferred place for the Bulgarian elite, popular businessmen, famous personalities and politicians. There is open-air fancy night bar at the Marina Dinevi and also several quiet restaurants just underneath the slope. Try them for a very enjoyable dinner with a good view toward the yachts and Sunny Beach bay. Try to avoid the Greek Fish restaurant - poor service, extremely high prices!
The combination of mountain air and beautiful sea views, the Mediterranean climate, the numerous private/family hotels offering first class service, together with the close proximity to Sunny Beach and Nessebar, have made this small village and its surroundings a preferred tourist destination for budget travellers in recent years.
